Fairphone Fairbuds 2 - Repairable Earbuds with Batteries You Can Swap Yourself

It has always bothered me that wireless earbuds have to be thrown away entirely once the battery wears out. Fairphone's Fairbuds 2 are built so that you can replace the batteries in both the earbuds and the charging case. I like things that last, so these caught my eye.

📸 Product Tour

The look is neat and not much different from ordinary earbuds

A short, flat stem design

The Forest Green color has a calm feel

The battery inside each earbud can be pulled out separately
🔍 Why I Got Interested
Repairable Earbuds
Peel off the silicone sleeve on each earbud and you can reach the battery without any tools. The case reportedly needs a T5 Torx screwdriver.
Part-by-Part Replacement
With 7 replaceable parts, losing one side doesn't mean buying a whole new pair.
Materials
The use of bio-cellulose drivers stood out to me. How they sound is something I'd have to hear for myself.
🤔 What Gives Me Pause
Sound Quality Is Unconfirmed
Easy repairs don't matter if the sound doesn't suit my taste. I'll have to wait for more reviews.
No LDAC on iPhone
The high-quality codec only works on compatible Android devices.
Availability in Korea
Official distribution and pricing in Korea haven't been confirmed.
📋 Product Traits (Subjective Ratings)
- Design: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
- Portability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
- Practicality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
- Value for money: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (price unconfirmed)
🛒 Pre-Purchase Checklist
✅ Recommended for
- People who want to keep their earbuds for a long time
- People who use LDAC on Android
❌ Not recommended for
- People who prioritize the latest features like noise cancelling
- People who need domestic after-sales service from day one
🎯 Final Verdict
What appeals to me most is that the Fairbuds 2 bring the idea of fixing and keeping things into actual earbuds. The fact that a worn-out battery, a consumable, doesn't have to be the end of the product fits my taste for long-lasting things exactly.
Sound quality and where to buy in Korea are still unknowns, so I'll keep watching. Once more reviews pile up, I plan to put them back on my list of candidates to look at again.
