Fujifilm Instax SQUARE 2 - Color Filters Applied Right on the Camera, No App Needed

Even with thousands of photos piled up in my gallery, hardly any of them end up in my hands. The Instax SQUARE 2 is a camera that aims to fill that gap with "a square print that comes out the moment you shoot." What caught my eye about this model is that you can pick a color filter on the camera itself, with no app.

✨ 3-Line Summary

  • 👍 Biggest strength: You can set the mood of a filter from the camera alone, with no smartphone connection
  • 👎 Downside: The price and per-sheet film cost haven't been confirmed yet
  • 🎯 Recommended for: Anyone who likes printing photos and pinning them to a wall or notebook

🔍 Why It Caught My Eye

A process that ends without an app

The moment you pull out your phone to apply a filter, half the charm of an instant camera is gone. Having it all handled inside the camera means the flow isn't interrupted, and that was a welcome touch.

The square format

A square frame makes it easy to center both people and objects, so I think it could be fun for documenting desk accessories or EDC items too.

🤔 What Gives Me Pause

Film cost

Instant film is a hobby where the per-sheet cost adds up. The price of this camera and the compatible film details still need official confirmation.

Real-world filter quality

I can't tell how the results will look from the colors in the images alone. I'd like to check once real-world reviews come out.

📋 Product Characteristics (Subjective Ratings)

  • Design: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • Portability: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
  • Practicality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • Value for money: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (for reference only, since the price is unconfirmed)

🛒 Pre-Purchase Checklist

✅ Recommended for

  • Anyone who wants to keep their phone photos on paper
  • Anyone who wants a nicely colored camera to display like a decor piece

❌ Not recommended for

  • Anyone put off by film costs
  • Anyone who wants high-resolution photos

🎯 Final Verdict

To me, this feels like a camera that puts the weight back on the act of "taking" a photo. The biggest draw is that even the filters are handled without an app.

That said, the price and film cost still need to be confirmed. It probably isn't too late to decide again once official information comes out.
