Gennai Pen SL01 - A Stainless Steel Pen Whose Mechanism Moves When You Press the Lever

Normally, you press a button on a pen, the tip comes out, and that's the end of it. The Gennai Pen SL01 turns the act of pressing a lever into a mechanical spectacle in its own right. It feels like winding a clock, and it hit my EDC taste squarely.

🔍 Why I Got Interested
The action is the detail
Every time you use the pen, the lever moves and the spring responds. I liked that it gives you the feeling of handling a small machine rather than just a writing instrument.
Exposed parts
With the screws, lever, and spring visible on the outside, the decoration and the function don't seem to be working against each other. It has that tool-like atmosphere typical of EDC gear.
Colors to suit your taste
The steel body comes with a variety of clip and lever colors, so even the same model takes on a different personality.
🤔 What Gives Me Pause
Writing feel and weight
It looks great in photos, but there's no way to know whether it's comfortable over long use. Metal pens carry some weight, and I'd also need to check which refill size it takes.
Price and where to buy
I haven't been able to confirm the price or sales channels yet. It may be a small-batch product, so I'd also need to check stock.
📋 Product Features (Subjective Ratings)
- Design: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Portability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
- Practicality: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
- Value for money: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (price unconfirmed, a question mark)
🛒 Pre-Purchase Checklist
✅ Recommended for
- People who like EDC gear that shows off its mechanical details
- People looking for a pen that doubles as a desk object
❌ Not recommended for
- People who want a light, no-fuss writing instrument
- People who often need to write quietly, such as in meetings or exams
🎯 Final Verdict
The Gennai Pen SL01 is closer to a small machine you hold in your hand than a writing instrument. The mechanical feel you'd get with every press of the lever is the heart of this pen.
If the price and writing feel turn out to be good, it's a pen I'd like to have in my EDC collection.
