It's plugged in while the playback screen shows a lossless indicator.

You can see the metal frame with a grid pattern and the buttons on the side.

It's short, so it doesn't stick out much even with a case on.

🔍 Why I Got Interested

The Long-Standing Problem Between the iPhone and Sound Quality

Apple's ecosystem is convenient, but its limited codec support is a letdown for audio enthusiasts. This product tries to work around that limit through the iPhone's USB-C port.

Small Size, Clear Controls

It has physical buttons for pairing and switching codecs, plus LEDs that show its status, so it looks like you could use it without an app. As an accessory you carry around, it looked quite clean.

Design Polish

The grid-patterned texture has the personality you'd expect from iFi. Even as a small part, it's a design that looks good on a desk.

🤔 What Gives Me Pause

How It Actually Sounds

Lossless transmission is a good direction, but the difference you'll notice will vary a lot depending on the headphone and codec combination. I can't judge until reviews come out.

The Hassle of Leaving It Plugged In

Since it hangs off the USB-C port, charging while using it may be difficult. I also need to check whether it gets in the way of cases and grips.

📋 Product Features (Subjective Ratings)

  • Practicality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • Value for money: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (price unconfirmed, a question mark)

🛒 Before You Buy

✅ Recommended for

  • People who use an iPhone together with high-end wireless headphones
  • People who like small audio accessories

❌ Not recommended for

  • People who don't care much about differences in sound quality
  • People who listen for long stretches while charging their iPhone

🎯 Final Verdict

The UP Play Max is a small dongle that answers iPhone users' audio frustrations head-on. If you've been giving up a little sound quality bit by bit just because wireless earbuds are convenient, I think it's worth a look.

That said, I haven't been able to confirm key specs like price, supported codecs, and battery life yet. Once those are sorted out, I plan to reassess.
