🔍 Why I Bought It and My Experience
The gold standard of EDC
I've tried a number of multi-tools, but I keep coming back to the Victorinox Huntsman. The 15 functions genuinely come in handy in everyday life.
Everyday use cases:
- Opening delivery boxes
- Tightening loose screws
- Trimming loose threads (scissors)
- Opening wine bottles
- Cutting branches while camping (wood saw)
Swiss quality really does hold up
After more than a year of use, it still looks and feels almost new. The blade is still sharp, and the spring tension hasn't changed a bit since day one. Swiss-made really is a different tier.
Great portability
The 91mm size is just right. It's comfortable in a pocket and fits perfectly in a backpack pocket too. At 95g, the weight is barely noticeable.
Getting the most out of the 15 tools
Top 5 most-used tools:
- Large blade - Handles 90% of everyday situations
- Scissors - Tape, thread, unpacking
- Wood saw - A camping essential, used more often than I expected
- Bottle opener - For that end-of-day beer
- Screwdriver - Tightening glasses screws and the like
Nice-to-have tools:
- Corkscrew (wine opener)
- Awl/needle (leatherwork, emergency stitching)
- Tweezers/toothpick (built in, always ready)
- Wire stripper
- Multi-purpose hook
💡 Real-World Impressions
👍 What I really like
Outstanding practicality It covers 90% of those "wish I had something for this" moments in daily life. I assumed I'd never need the wood saw, but it's turned out to be genuinely useful while camping or doing outdoor activities.
Swiss quality After carrying it every day for over a year, it hasn't broken down once. The blade is still sharp and the springs are still solid. There's a reason it comes with a lifetime warranty.
Allowed in most places Since the blade uses a slip-joint design rather than a locking mechanism, it's permitted in most places. (Not in airplane cabins, of course, but it's fine in checked luggage.)
Just the right size The smaller Victorinox (Classic) is too small, and the Swisschamp is too big. The Huntsman lands right in the sweet spot.
👎 What could be better
A bit bulky With 15 tools crammed in, it comes in at 18mm thick. If you want something slimmer, I'd recommend the Climber or Tinker instead.
Blade doesn't lock Because it's a slip-joint design, the blade doesn't lock in place. Apply too much force and it could fold back on you. Not ideal for heavy-duty tasks.
Cleaning the wood saw Sawdust gets stuck in the wood saw after use, and cleaning it out is a bit of a hassle. You need to rinse it and let it dry completely.

🎯 Final Verdict
After a year of use:
The Victorinox Huntsman has become the core of my EDC setup. I carry it in my pocket every day and pull it out multiple times a day — at this point, I genuinely can't imagine being without it.
My most memorable moment: While camping, one of my tent stakes snapped. I used the Huntsman's wood saw to cut a fresh branch and made a replacement stake on the spot — drilling a hole with the awl and cutting rope with the scissors. That's when I really understood the value of a multi-tool.
Would I recommend buying it? 200%
The price might feel like a stretch at first, but when you think of it as an investment in a tool you'll use for a lifetime, it's genuinely reasonable. Factor in the Swiss quality and lifetime warranty, and the value is outstanding.
If you're just getting into EDC, start with the Huntsman. And even if you already own other multi-tools, the Huntsman still has its own unique appeal.
My EDC score: 10/10 I doubt I'll find a better multi-tool than this.
